Whoo hoo! I heart Fridays! I had a fantastic week:
my dad and his family were visiting from Maui (best island EVER. Hands down.) last weekend, I got to see my cousin Jason who is currently deployed on a Naval ship for about 5 months or more (he may be heading to Libya, which is very scary, but he’s brave and can handle), and I got to spend some time with good friends on a weekday.

Seriously?
That just doesn’t happen in my world. My weekdays are spent as if I was still in elementary school- early bedtime, easy on the sugar (um, wine), and come home right after school (work). I was living on the wild side!
AND… I was able to workout! After one whole week… last night I ran a little over 2 miles in about 33 minutes. That’s about 16.5 minutes/mile. Now, that may not seem too impressive for experienced runners, but for me, I limped hopped off excitedly from the treadmill and raised my hands in victory, doing victory laps complete with a victory dance.
OK. Not so much. But that is how I felt on the inside. Why was I so excited, you ask?
Well, usually my runs have been based on timed intervals (walk/run/walk/run for so many minutes, total of 30 minutes). And honestly, they kill me.
But last night, I decided to run for 2 miles, as long as it took me. To run as long as I can, walk when I need to, and to not be afraid of increasing my speed for some intervals. And I did just that.
I started out with a walk for 2 minutes, ran at a 12 min/mile for about 3 minutes, and walked again for 2. I repeated this three times but then my legs were soooo sore I just had to stop. I walked for about 5 minutes… bringing me to 22 minutes. I looked at my distance… just under a mile and a half… and I’m almost up to 30 minutes! Shoot! I got further doing those painful intervals!!
I thought, I better pick it up. So I sprinted- 12 min/mile, then 11.3, 10.9, 10, 9.8, 9.2, 8.7… before I knew it, I was sprinting at 8.57 min/mile!!!
I didn’t hold it for very long, but I never thought I could even move my legs that fast! I felt strong! And running that fast felt so good!
So I’m super stoked for my workout today… I’m gonna try for 3 miles… hey, I might run my first 5K today!
And for all my friends , for your viewing pleasure, a little song to get us in the weekend mood… It’s Aloha Friday! No work till Monday!
PS. Can you pick out my favorite line? Hint- it contains the title of this post!
PPS. I may have another post lined up for today (What?! I know I know, I’m on fire!) so stay tuned for that!
Wayda go gurl! Nice blog too..... :)
